What the new CARES package could mean to nonprofits

New COVID-19 Variants
New variants of COVID-19 are rapidly emerging. The CDC is working to learn more about how easily they might spread, whether they could cause more severe illness, and whether currently authorized vaccines will protect people against them.
At this time, there is no evidence that these variants cause more severe illness or increased risk of death.

PA Governor Lifts Time Limited Mitigation
The time-limited mitigation orders put in place on Dec. 12 have helped to begin flattening the curve of new cases following the post-Thanksgiving surge in Pennsylvania. As a result, the Governor announced that the time-limited orders as written expire January 4.

Stimulus payments for people, not nursing homes
The Federal Trade Commission is reporting that that some nursing facilities tried to take the stimulus payments intended for their residents and advises that families to follow up with their loved ones in nursing homes and care facilities.

Fraud Schemes Related to COVID-19 Vaccines
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are warning the public about several emerging fraud schemes related to COVID-19 vaccines that attempt to obtain personally identifiable information (PII) and money through various schemes.
